It wasn't my day off yesterday, but I went for the experiment. Yes, I tried out a blueberry ice cream recipe. I got the basic idea from the recipe Kat gave me, and combined it with another recipe(Japanese) which I found on the net. The latter was actually a "blueberry cream cheese ice cream" recipe, and I was so curious about how cream cheese would work. The result: It was good. But the cream cheese was a bit overpowering, I would say. To bring out the best flavor of my precious and scarce blueberries, I would rather not use cream cheese. Categories: Sweets |

That definitely does look delicious, especially with that mint (?) sprig on top. I would not have imagined blueberry ice cream would be good, but I can see that since strawberry ice cream, and other fruit flavors hit it off well, that blueberry shouldn't do bad either.
OMG I love the color! maybe you could reduce the amount of cream cheese?
I'd love to have a taste of that! :-)
I love blueberries, I made the ice-cream last year, with yogurt instead of cream cheese, but yours looks way more delicious! ;)

That looks good. What an amazing colour!
That looks really delicious. I think maybe yogurt would work better and not be so overpowering in taste. Hope your next batch goes better!
wow! the color does remind me of my favorite ice cream, yam =)
hope more blueberries come...

I agree. Berries should make good ice cream.

I guess so... or avoid using cream cheese at all.

I wish you could come to my kitchen! ;)

Hey, don't be too humble. Your blueberry ice cream looks so good! :D
Yeah, I might replace cream cheese with yogurt next time...

I love the color, too. :)

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I guess the tang of yogurt could add some refreshing flavor, too.

We have purple sweet potato ice cream here in Japan and this blueberry ice cream reminded me of that. It's no surprise... because IIRC, their color comes from the same substance (anthocyanin). ;)
What are you going to make with your blueberries? I can't wait to see. How is your blueberry plant this year? In the southern USA, we have had perfect weather for blueberries, and I have saved about 2 liters of blueberries I hand picked and them in my freezer to eat later =)
Obachan, to bring out the essence of fruits, perhaps sorbetto is the way to go with your berries.

I made a small batch of sorbetto using leftover frozen mango from making jam and the taste was incredible. Very fresh tasting.

Well, I made this blueberry ice cream and I'm glad that I gave it a try.
Two liters of blueberries! It's really something. Enjoy your berries! :D

Yeah, next time I would go for sorbetto. Adding cream cheese did not necessarily ruin the natural taste of berries, but I guess sorbetto would be more straightforward and refreshing. Thanks.
